Everything You Need to Know About Brazilian Waxing

Q: How soon after shaving can I get a wax?

A: The hair should be at least 1/4 inch long for a Brazilian wax. This is the ideal length for the wax to adhere to the hair and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. If your hair is significantly longer than this we may trim some areas to reduce discomfort. Ideal hair length is between ¼ and ½ inch.

Q: How do I prepare for a wax?

A: You should:

  • Shower and exfoliate the area to be waxed 24 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and help the wax adhere better.

  • Avoid shaving or using any hair removal creams for at least 24 hours before your appointment to allow the hair to grow long enough to be waxed effectively.

  • Arrive at your appointment with clean, dry skin to prevent infection.

  • Wear loose-fitting clothing that is easy to remove to make it easier for the wax technician to access the area to be waxed.

You should not:

  • Wax the area yourself before your appointment to avoid ingrown hairs and skin irritation.

  • Apply lotion or oil to the area to be waxed, this will prevent the wax from adhering properly.

  • Wear tight clothing or jewelry that will restrict your movement or make it difficult for the wax technician to do their job.

  • Eat or drink anything that could make you feel lightheaded or nauseous, such as caffeine or alcohol.

  • Have any piercings or tattoos in the area to be waxed that are not fully healed to avoid infection.

Q: What is the post-waxing aftercare?

A:

  • Avoid tight-fitting clothing

  • Do not exfoliate for at least 48 hours

  • Moisturize with unscented lotion to avoid dry skin

  • No vigorous activity, or anything that’ll make you hot and sweaty

  • Avoid baths for about 24 hours

Q: How soon can I book my next wax appointment?

A: Depending on hair growth, you can book as soon as 3 weeks out, but 4 weeks is ideal to ensure all of the removal of hair.

Q: It’s my first time getting a wax, what should I expect?

A: You’ll be naked! At least from the waist down you will be asked to remove your clothing so that our technician can get to the areas needed. You will probably experience some discomfort when the wax is removed, comparable to any other wax. Each time you return for a Brazilian wax it will get easier; overtime, your hair will get thinner and less coarse. Your hair grows on different cycles, so expect about 3 - 4 waxes before you see an even growth pattern. You may be asked to help hold parts of your skin away from certain areas, and there’s some leg lifting involved to get the behind, but otherwise nothing crazy happens. Let your wax pro know ahead of time if you’d like to leave a landing strip or other decorative patches behind.
